The Stanley Works offers a way for full-time U.S. employees,
retirees, and directors to double their contributions to some of their
favorite educational, cultural and other qualifying nonprofit organizations.
Stanley will match at a 1:1 ratio, within certain limits and restrictions,
donations to “Eligible Participants” as defined below.
Any regular full-time employee, retiree or director of The Stanley Works
or one of its U.S. subsidiaries is eligible to participate. Program does
not include spouses or other family members. Part-time and temporary employees
are not eligible.
All organizations must be located in the United States or its possessions,
and be recognized as tax-exempt under Section 501-c-3 of the Internal
Revenue Code, and are not private foundations as described in Section
509(a) of the Internal Revenue Code. Programs supported must provide services
to all individuals without regard to race, color, religion, sex or national
origin. All organizations must be administered by trained, professional
management.
Stanley’s program matches gifts to eligible recipients in the following
categories only. All other matching gift applications will be rejected.
Educational Institutions:
Eligible educational institutions are: two-year and four-year
colleges; graduate schools; and public and private primary and secondary
schools, which are:
• Non-discriminatory, degree-granting;
• Located in the United States or one of its possessions;
• Accredited by a nationally recognized regional or professional
association;
• Recognized by the IRS as a tax-exempt educational institution.
The only non-school institution eligible to receive matching gifts is
the United Negro College Fund (which must certify that the funds will
be used to support institutions which would qualify individually under
this program).
Culture and Arts:
Non-profit arts or cultural organizations or institutions which are operated
for the benefit of the general public, including: public radio and television;
performing arts companies in dance, drama, opera and music; public arts
or cultural centers; museums of art, science or history; public libraries
and art galleries; public theatres, art councils or funds; planetariums;
arboretums, botanical or zoological gardens or public zoos; and historical
villages or cultural preservation efforts open to the public.
Hospitals & Health-Related Organizations:
Non-profit hospitals or health-related organizations that provide medical
assistance and services to the general public, including research/support
groups, hospice and VNA groups. Examples are: hospital foundations, the
American Cancer Society, Doctors Without Borders.
Volunteer Fire Departments and Disaster Relief:
Non-profit first aid or emergency squads and volunteer fire departments
which are operated for the benefit of the public. Emergency disaster relief
programs designated by federal or state government (such as hurricanes,
earthquakes, etc.) will be eligible for a match.
Food Banks, Soup Kitchens and Homeless Shelters:
Food banks, soup kitchens and homeless shelters which provide food and
shelter for needy men, women and children.
Affordable Housing Initiatives:
Eligible institutions are those whose mission is to create and/or rehabilitate
affordable housing. (Examples: Habitat for Humanity, Christmas in April,
Neighborhood Housing Services.)
• A minimum of $10 and a maximum aggregate
of $10,000 per eligible donor in any one calendar year.
• Made in cash or negotiable securities
having a publicly listed market value.
• Actually paid in full and not merely
pledged.
• All gifts will be matched on a $1 for
$1 basis.
The Stanley Works will not contribute matching funds in these cases and
applications in these cases will be rejected.
• Forms received more than one year after
the date of the gift.
• Gifts to organizations which are not
tax-exempt under Section 501-c-3 of the internal Revenue Code, or are
otherwise ineligible.
• Dues of gifts to alumni groups which
are not governed by an eligible higher education institution.
• Gifts for non-scholastic programs such
as athletic stadium construction, theatre production, etc.
• Gifts to recreational organizations
such as the PTO, Jaycees, booster clubs, sororities, fraternities, political
or religious organizations.
• Special events that benefit a specific
organizations, e.g. walkathons, golf tournaments, etc.
• Gifts to fulfill tithes, pledges or
other church-related financial commitments.
• Amounts payable as dues or subscription
fees for magazines.
• Insurance premium payments.
• Payments that cover the cost of services,
tuition, books or other student fees.
• Ticket purchases or gifts to individuals
where direct value is received.
• In-kind services, materials, supplies
or pledges.
• Gifts made with the primary intent to
receive merchandise, such as school memorabilia, status auto tags, publications,
etc.
• Donations made for raffles or games
of chance.
• Payments to satisfy legal obligations.
• Funds may not be collected from others
and submitted by an eligible donor to be matched, with the exception of
funds collected among active, full-time Stanley employees for specific
eligible recipients at the discretion of the Matching Gifts Administrator
and/or VP of Human Resources.
The Donor should complete and sign parts A and B of the Matching
Gifts Form for each contribution and send it with the gift to the
eligible institution. Forms sent directly to The Stanley Works by donors
will be rejected.
An authorized representative of the recipient organization
should complete Part C, certifying that the gift complies with the eligibility
requirements of this program detailed above. Return the completed form

The donor will be notified when gifts are not eligible,
or when the donor has exceeded the program’s annual limit.
Stanley reserves the right to modify, suspend or terminate
this program at any time. Stanley reserves the right to determine whether
or not a gift is eligible to be matched.
